Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

"Feeling real is more than existing; it is finding a way to exist as oneself.”

- D.W. Winnicott, Psychoanalyst

Beginning therapy can be a vulnerable, inspiring, and transformative experience. In our work together, I will listen closely, taking you and your concerns seriously to guide you towards insight, meaning, and a deeper connection with yourself.  I hope we’re able to find humor, hope, and connection while grappling with some of life’s toughest questions.

  • Psychodynamic psychotherapy assumes that we get a blueprint about the world based on our experiences in childhood. Our attachment style, our experience of emotions, and our relationship to ourselves, is informed by the psychological climate we absorb as children. Through experiencing a trusting and consistent relationship with a therapist, we’re able to correct these attachment concerns, learn about ourselves, and revisit our inner child. By getting to the real roots of the problem, we can make lasting change. Psychodynamic psychotherapy is empirically supported. Check out this article by Jonathan Shedler, PhD on the long-term efficacy of psychodynamic therapy.

  • Often, I begin session with the simple question, "What's on your mind?". Your thoughts, feelings, hopes, and imaginings offer a window into your internal life that is meaningful and complex. We start there - exactly wherever you need to be. I listen carefully and offer insights based on my clinical training, human experience, and understanding of you. Sometimes, clients are in therapy for only a few months, while others may stay for years, even once the initial concern has resolved. This can vary widely, as it depends on each person’s life and circumstances.

  • Many of my clients experience emotional or existential isolation, life transitions, family or relationship concerns, or feeling anxious or depressed. Often, symptoms are signs that something deeper internally seeks to be understood.

Psychological Testing & Assessment

“The human psyche, like human bones, is strongly inclined towards self-healing.”

- John Bowlby, Psychoanalyst

Psychological testing can be an intimidating venture. I’ll guide you through the process as we build a thorough and intentional assessment that helps you learn more about yourself. I provide testing for adults for ADHD and general diagnostic clarification. My hope is that testing provides you clarity and a thoughtful plan for your mental health needs moving forward.

  • Often, clients seek testing when they want diagnostic clarification. Your therapist or psychiatrist may mention that they are unsure how to best treat your symptoms. This is most frequently seen for those who are curious if they have ADHD. It is best practice to confirm a diagnosis of ADHD with psychological testing prior to receiving treatment.

  • Generally, the psychological assessment process includes an initial, 55-minute intake session, 3-4 hours of in-person test administration (may include puzzles, questionnaires, academic measures), and a 55-minute feedback session to discuss the final written evaluation and the specific recommendations.

Testing sessions are only offered in-person.

  • Psychological assessment/testing fees vary based on testing needs. Please inquire for more information.

I accept Aetna, BCBS PPO, and Blue Choice PPO plans.
